Description

The 4th edition was the last to be published in 1982 and was reprinted in 2000. It was based largely on guidance provided by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). In particular, much use has been made of the WMO Guide to Meteorological Instrument and Observing Practices, 1971, and the WMO International Cloud Atlas, Volume I, 1975. It was aimed at five categories of observing stations: synoptic, auxiliary reporting stations, climatological stations (manned by voluntary co-operating observers), health resort stations and agricultural meteorological (agrometeorological) stations.
